From a young age, Johnathan Yancey (known to many as John or Johnny) found his calling in the kitchen, first learning to bake alongside his mom and later mastering the soulful, home-cooked traditions of his family. He went on to learn his dad's highly sought-after Cajun culinary techniques—flavors widely known and loved among family and friends. This early passion was a natural precursor to over thirty years dedicated to the vibrant restaurant and bar industry.
John's entrepreneurial drive quickly took root. In 1995, he launched the County Line Saloon, a country/western nightclub in Fort Bend County. By 1999, he was a co-owner of Boondoggle’s Brewpub & Pizzeria in Seabrook, showcasing his diverse business acumen. In September 2017, John brought his culinary roots to life, founding Cafe Johnny’s, a Southern and Cajun style restaurant in Friendswood/Webster. It quickly earned acclaim, ranking an impressive 26th out of over 300 restaurants in the Clear Lake Area by "Restaurant Guru."
Tragically, Hurricane Harvey forced the closure of Cafe Johnny’s in October 2018. However, this setback paved the way for an exciting new chapter. Just a month after opening his own restaurant in October 2017, John expanded his expertise into catering, joining forces with Southern Elegance Catering. This local, well-known company, founded in 2004 by Chef Pat and Denise Mayberry, became John's new culinary home. His extensive management background, honed at respected establishments like The Black Labrador Pub & Restaurant, Rio Ranch Texas, and
Classic Cafe proved invaluable.
Today, John continues to bring his rich culinary heritage, decades of industry experience, and unwavering dedication to Southern Elegance, honoring the legacy of its founders while crafting unforgettable dining experiences.
